What is moderator band?

The moderator band, also known as the septomarginal trabecula, is a muscular ridge or band of tissue found in the right ventricle of the heart. It is believed to play a role in directing blood flow and providing support for the heart during contraction. The moderator band is most commonly seen in animals with high levels of physical activity, such as dolphins and horses, and is less prominent in humans. In some cases, a thickened moderator band may be an indicator of cardiac disease.
